So my 31st birthday was the 22nd, and I had the flu. Yeah so fun. It was actually quite a rough day as I had to take Sid to the Dr. and felt and looked like death warmed over. It took everything I had and some extra prayerful moments to make it there and back. I spent the rest of the day trying to parent from the couch and feeling terrible. Well fast forward to Kyle coming home. He ask what he could make me, and in all honestly I could not taste a thing because of my congestion. But soup sure did sound good. So my sweet husband stopped at the store after a long day at work and got things to make me homemade chicken noodle soup. He had never made it before and did such a great job. It was perfect. And while he was cooking the three big kids went down stairs and wrapped up "gifts" for me that they found. They love to give gifts and let me tell you opening them and hearing those little voices sing happy birthday to me was the best thing ever. I can still hear Callie's adorable little voice saying "Happy Birthday Mama" over and over again. Then after soup we had cards and cookie cake. It was perfect. And I'm not even just saying that, it was perfect. Even through my sickness, the sweetness of that time was explainable. Everything was as it should be and I felt so loved and blessed!
After Kyle got all the kids in bed he brought up a package. Mind you I did not expect anything else. And I opened it and cried. It was a new camera. Our camera had bit the dust the week before and for YEARS I have wanted a nice SLR camera. Every time we have thought about getting one it just has not been the right time financially. And truthfully I had just talked to Kyle about getting another point and shoot and not spending that money. Well this sweet man had made a trip to a local camera store at some point during his busy/stressful work day and purchased the best camera for me. He got me a Nikon D3100 and I'm so excited to learn how to use it. Already in the point and shoot modes it takes a photo about a million times clearer than any point and shoot I have ever used, and I know as soon as I learn how to use the manual modes it will be even better.
But honestly, even thought I loved this gift so much, I realize that even without it I already had the perfect birthday. There was a time when I dreamed about sitting around a table with MY children and husband being sung to and there will come a day when I dream about having it back, so sitting around that table being sung to by 5 of the most beautiful voices was the best birthday gift ever. And I mean that with all my heart.
